Hi there, I hope everyone is well and enjoyed the 2 days of sunshine that we experienced. Since the last newsletter the club has been extremely busy with lots of rehearsing, fund-raising and of course cart building.

Early on in the month we took part in the annual sponsored Bike Ride, with the largest turnout we have had for years a good day was expected, however disaster struck when just out of town the heavens opened and we were beginning to get wet. Not to worry though as we all piled into the halfway for some liquid refreshment and waited for the rain to die down before the next leg of the Journey. The rains eased and we set off to the King Alfred inn at Burrow-bridge, safe in the knowledge that Tim Knapp would of rang ahead and made sure they would be open!!!!!

After a couple of mins the rain came down in ever increasing volume. And after about 30mins of cycling in the pouring rain and howling winds we reached the next pub. Unfortunately Tim hadn’t rang ahead to check if they were open, so we were soaking wet, stranded and outside an empty pub. After much soul searching we decided to head for the Thatcher’s for a quick pint and some warm air, once again though this pub was shut, so the convoy headed on past The Harvest moon (shut) and on to the Boat & Anchor (thankfully open)

After a few pints in here it was off (in more rain) to The Hope Inn, from here the sky’s brightened and e managed eventually to dry off. All in all it was a cracking day out and when we shook off the pneumonia we all agreed we enjoyed it.

The Club also held a ‘Cart Building’ Weekend in August and unfortunately this was very poorly attended, with only (as I write this) 59 days to B/W Carnival there is an awful lot of work to be done, and we as members, VP’s. Helpers all need to pull together for the best interests of Marketeers CC. So, if you can spare a few hours out there please do so, a hour spent know is one we don’t have to spent ion the early hours of the morning in the week leading up to carnival.

With concerts rapidly approaching rehearsals have gathered pace and are going extremely well, as always we need a few helpful pairs of hands over the concert period to help us on and off with the props. Also as is now tradition, we are at home on the first night of concerts (Sunday 28th) and are having the customary party, however this year we are also having a BBQ. So please all come along and make the first night of concerts a memorable and enjoyable one.

In the upcoming month we have our September Cabaret, once again all help from people is appreciated (and dearly needed) at the last cabaret we only had 2 Non members come and help us in the night time. For these Cabarets to continue and be as successful we really do need everyone’s help and support, so please pencil the 20th Sept in your diaries and come and lend us a hand. It will be very appreciated by everyone there.

With nothing else to really say, I bid you farewell for now, I hope to see you at the Cabaret and also out on the 28th in the Old Market. Please if you have any spare time pop out the halfway and lend a hand and lets make 2008 a year to remember for the Marketeers Carnival Club.

Enjoy your carnival and have a great few months – Windsor
